Best of St Leonards & Hastings

Hastings Pier,  1 – 10 White Rock, TN341JY is a wonderful piece of archeticture and a very Zen public space.  Tranquil & strong.

The restaurant and fabulous food kiosks make this top of my list as a local destination for whiling away a few glorious hours of relaxation with the kids & dogs.  Watch out for special events on the website Hastings Pier.  I’m keen to see the Tigers Freefall Parachute Display on Sunday 16 Th July, 1 pm for Pirate Day. VIP tickets are on sale now. Get the best view of this awesome display from the VIP Deck with prosecco & canapés too. Hmmmm very tempting!

A little further closer to Warrior Square cafe Zanzibar  has had a makeover and now has a glorious North Shore beach vibe.  The garden is a tropical oasis and a great get away from the hustle & bustle of the waterfront.

Cafe Zanzibar , Café Zanzibar, 9 Eversfield Place, St Leonards TN376BY open 8 am to 10 pm. One of my favourite places to meet with girlfriends & family for lunch. I can wholeheartedly recommend the salt & pepper squid with one of the best sea views in town. Go to Cafe Zanzibar for the delicious menu & wine list.  I should also mention all food  is local and home cooked and the waitresses are the best in town!

Spray Tanning Tips

vintage bathers

Spray Tanning is increasing in popularity as the formulas used by Tanning companies like St Tropez offer a golden natural looking all over body tan with no streaking.  Just a nice golden tan!  No tango here!

Here are my guidelines for a fantastic Spray Tan using St Tropez.

Pre Tan Preparation:

Shower, exfoliate, and remove body hair 8 to 24 hours before your tanning session.

Skin should be clean and dry before being sprayed.

Don’t apply moisturisers, deodorants, antiperspirants, oils or makeup before your tanning appointment as they can effect tan development.

Wear loose, easily cleaned clothing to appointment.  Wear loose shoes.

Style hair in a hairclip or pony tail so it will be off of face, and neck.

Remove all contact lens and jewellery before your tan.

Remember to optimise your tan you need to avoid water for 6 to 8 hours.   Ideally you should not  swim, sweat, bath or exercise.  The longer you can leave your tan to develop the better so if it is possible to sleep overnight with your tan then shower the next morning then that is ideal.

If it is raining, bring an umbrella, and protective shoes and gloves!

After Tan Care:

Wear  loose fitting clothing for 6 to 8 hours, while tan develops and avoid exercise and steam and water.

After 6 to 8 hours, shower normally, avoid exfoliates and abrasives.

Wash with a mild shower gel, preferably moisturising, Use a soft  shower sponge.

A little colour will wash away when you first shower and this is normal; this is excess solution, and colour guide tint.   Remember to pat skin dry gently and no rubbing.

Avoid exfoliating skin. Some products can cause faster fading so try and use as natural products as possible.  Try and use a gentle shower wash.  I recommend Biona Pure Virgin Coconut Oil as it is unrefined and unbleached and an excellent body butter which you can apply whilst skin is damp to lock in moisture.  I buy mine from   3 Trinity Street, Hastings, TN341HG.  They also have an excellent range of Weleda bathing products and body oils.

Basically if your skin stays as nourished as possible whilst you have your spray tan you should have 5 to 6 days of a gorgeous tan.

For those who have not tried a spray tan, then you can opt for a light mist all over.  It is possible to adapt the tan to suit your needs so a full consultation will be done prior to your spray tan to ensure you get the exact depth of colour your are after!

Enjoy your tan!

Precious Vessels – candles

One of my true passions are candles.  There is nothing in my mind so comforting as the warm glow of candlelight, especially in these cold winter months.  Not only do they give a room a wonderful glow, they also make any complexion look radiant!

My other passion is all things vintage, and I spend a lot of time sourcing antique vessels in which to make my creations! I adore tiny vintage coffee cups, little keepsake china oddities and gorgeous glass, which gives the most wonderful effect when used for candles.

Each of my candles tends to be under 10 cm in diameter and width making them ideal for the boudoir! Lovely on dressing tables and gorgeous on mantelpieces, each one is truly unique and bespoke.

Each month I will post a new collection, this is February 2014.

I make my candles using natural soya wax and I fragrance with delicious scents, this month I have made an alluring scent of the highly prized middle eastern oud softened with baby powder – mmm divine!

Each candle is £9.99 with a burn time of approx – 4 to 5 hours.  I offer a refilling service from £4.00 which means your precious vessel will always be illuminated.  They make fabulous gifts for loved ones and special occasions, or as a special treat for yourself.

Clients who come to me for treatments will often see them alight in the treatment room and they really do add a lovely ambience to any room.

Each bespoke candle is beautifully packaged in a gift box and label.
